We were uncertain what type speakers were to be discovered in these cabinets especially when told the father built them prior to knowing what his son was bringing home. When I picked them up the owner stated he had paid 500.00 for them. Was he blowing smoke? It added to the anticipation for sure. At our asking price we are including the original speakers. A pair of Coral 12TX-50 triaxial speakers and crossovers. The winner could defray some expense with the resale of the original speakers. Or buy the speakers and get the cabinets

The bottom line is if you own a pair of 2,000+ dollar or other amazing speakers they deserve to be in these cabinets

Beautiful cabinet work by someone clueless about loudspeakers.

There are so many things wrong, i would even attempt making a list.

No port

No damping

No bracing

You don't build "acoustically proper" cabinets from solid lumber, it's density is too irregular, and unless it is meticulously sealed from the environment on ALL surfaces it is likely to eventually crack and check which will cause even more unpleasant and random resonances than it's irregular density.

I could pick on the sap lines too, you don't build fine furniture with sapwood.

I wasn't super impressed with the boxes. They look thrown together to me.

The light line of grain just to the outside of the driver opening. That'd be #3 grade from a quality hardwood supplier, most cabinet makers wouldn't use it in an exposed area.

I would have to hear that to beleive it. It's got to be better that flexible MDF or particle board.

MDF/particle is an acoustically nearly ideal material for cabinets, at least much more ideal than solid lumber. Certainly, it has many other caveats. But, acoustically, it's good stuff.
